Backs host Smoke Eaters tonight, in the back half of a home-and-home set.

The Silverbacks host the Trail Smoke Eaters tonight at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm at 7 pm, as the teams meet for the third time in the 2014-15 season and the second time in as many games.

The Silverbacks went into Trail on Wednesday, October 22nd and gave up the opening goal for the fifth time this season as The Smoke Eaters scored two goals 91 seconds apart to take a two-nothing lead in the first period and went onto win 4-1. Ross Heidt scored the first for the ‘Backs, his second of the season in just his third game of the season to cut Trail’s lead in half early in the second period but The Smoke Eaters added two more in the third. Silverbacks AP Alex Astasiewicz of Salmon Arm assisted on Heidt’s goal and is with the ‘Backs for weekend after playing two games with the team as an AP last season. The 16-year-old has 11 points in 15 games in his first season with the Golden Rockets in the KIJHL this season.

Logan Mick will return to the Silverbacks line-up tonight as he was suspended the past two games by the BCHL for his five minute goaltender interference penalty last Friday, October 17 at home to the Victoria Grizzlies. Mick has one assist and 21 penalty minutes in his first 10 games this as a Silverback. The 18-year-old, who is committed Quinnipiac (NCAA Div. I) for next season shares his thought’s on the start to this season.

18-year-old Carl El-Mir has three assists in the first 12 regular season games. The rookie from Montreal, Quebec who is committed to Connecticut (NCAA Div. I) next season explains their play of late, as well his start.

Trail’s Jake Lucchini who scored once and had an assist on Wednesday now has seven goals along with 11 assists in 18 games and is tied for fifth in BCHL scoring with 18 points. His teammate Charlie Zuccarini of Trail had two assists on Wednesday and is also tied for fifth with eight goals and ten assists in ten games.

The ‘Backs and The Smoke Eaters have now each won a game in the season series after the Silverbacks opened with a 4-2 victory in Trail last month. The Silverbacks are coming off of their first victory at the Shaw Centre this season, 5-2 over the Langley Rivermen this past Sunday October 19. The Smoke Eaters are 3-1-0-0 are on the road this season.

The ‘Backs now have five wins and five losses along with two overtime losses for 12 points in 12 games. The Silverbacks are alone in fourth in the Interior Division, one point behind the third place Vernon Vipers and two points backs of the Smoke Eaters and Merritt Centennials who are tied in second place with 14 points. Trail now has seven wins and three losses in just ten games. The Penticton Vees lead the division with 22 points in 12 games. West Kelowna has lost its last four games and is in fifth place in the Interior but with 11 points in 11 games the Warriors are just one point back of the Silverbacks.

The Silverbacks will finish their weekend this Sunday afternoon at home to the Penticton Vees at 3 pm at the Shaw Centre. The Vees won their eighth consecutive game on Thursday, 3-2 in double overtime in Prince George.
