‘Backs host Chiefs, in second meeting of the season.

The Silverbacks and Chilliwack Chiefs meet for the second and final time this regular season tonight at 7p.m. at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm. The Chiefs came from behind to win the first game of the season series, 3-2 at the Prospera Centre in the Fraser Valley on Sunday, November 23rd.

‘Backs AP Steven Jandric along with Taro Hirose put the visitors ahead 2-0 in the second period, but Evan MacEachern cut the lead in half late in the middle period. Jordan Kawaguchi and Tipper Higgins found the back of the net in the third frame to give Chilliwack a 3-2, come from behind victory on home-ice. The Chiefs out-shot the Silverbacks 26-23.

Defenseman Bennett Morrison was a healthy scratch in Chilliwack and moved on from the ‘Backs to the Chiefs days later. Morrison of Balton, Ontario had 2 goals, 3 assists along with 12 penalty minutes in 23 games with the ‘Backs. Morrison has 2 assists in 5 games with the Chiefs.

Chilliwack is coming into the Shaw Centre in first place in the Mainland Division, 19-9-0-1 with 39 points in 29 games and 3 points ahead of the Prince George Spruce Kings who are in second place with 3 games in hand on the Chiefs. Chilliwack won 6-3 in Prince George this past Saturday, the 6th. Craig Puffer leads the Chiefs in scoring with 19 goals and 13 assists in 29 games. Chilliwack has scored 107 goals and allowed 92 in its 29 games this season compared to the Silverbacks 92 goals and 100 against.

The ‘Backs are 10-12-2-5 with 29 points in 29 games alone in fifth in the Interior Division, 7 points behind the Merritt Centennials in fourth place but have a game in hand on the Cents and 2 points ahead of the Trail Smoke Eaters who have one game in hand on the Silverbacks. The ‘Backs split their weekend home-and-home set with the West Kelowna Warriors last weekend, shutting out the Warriors 3-0 in West Kelowna on Friday the 5th before losing 7-1 at home to the Warriors at the Shaw Centre on Saturday the 6th.

Chilliwack is 6-8-0-1 on the road this season while the Silverbacks are 4-6-1-2 at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm. The ‘Backs are 3-2-1-1 versus the Mainland Division thus far this season. The Silverbacks host the Interior Division leading Penticton Vees on Friday the 12th at 7 pm at the Shaw Centre before travelling to Merritt to take on the Centennials Saturday at 7:30p.m.
