Backs Main Camp begins Friday morning, August 29th and will include “new wrinkles”.
Head Coach Brandon West with a preview and the details as Main Camp 2014 begins Friday morning, August 29th at the Shaw Centre. Registration is at 8a.m., there will be a camp meeting at 8:30a.m., followed by fitness testing from 9a.m. until 12p.m. Team white, grey and black will then alternate with 60 minute practises from 10:30a.m. until 2p.m. Day 1 of Main Camp wraps up with a pair games beginning at 6p.m. and 7p.m.

Veteran Silverback forced to retire from hockey.
20-year-old F Alex Jewell of Vernon was forced to make an extremely difficult decision this off-season due to a health issue. The Vernon product has played four seasons in the BCHL and the past two seasons with the Silverbacks after coming from the Penticton Vees in the 2012-2013 season. He had 8 points in 29 games in his first season with Salmon Arm, before scoring 10 goals and 12 assists in 57 games with the Backs in 13-14.

Carl El-Mir is on his way to Salmon Arm.
The Backs signed winger Carl El-Mir from the Selects Academy U-18 in the first week of June. The 18-year-old from St. Lambert, Quebec was voted as the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in the USPHL U-18 Div. this past season. In 30 games, El-Mir potted 21 goals and 37 assists for 58 points. He’ll join his Selects teammate, Chase Priskie of the Backs as they both set to attend the University of Connecticut in 2015-16.

Priskie preparing for his season in Salmon Arm.
Chase Priskie of Pembroke Pines, Florida is in Salmon Arm after his Senior year at the Selects Hockey Academy at South Kent in Connecticut. The 17-year-old D scored 10 goals and 19 assists in 27 games with 18 penalty minutes in the USPHL U-18 Div.
Priskie won the Coaches Award for MVP in the 12-13 season at South Kent, with 15 goals and 25 assists.

Mayor dunked, community townhall and best turnout ever at Backs 3rd Annual Season Kickoff.
Salmon Arm Mayor Nancy Cooper was among the more than 160 people who came out to City Hall Thursday, August 21st as players and staff engaged with fans and sponsors.

Danyluk comes home for his final season of Junior hockey.
The Backs completed a trade with the West Kelowna Warriors on Thursday, August 21st, acquiring the rights to 20-year-old F Shane Danyluk of Salmon Arm in exchange for 19-year-old F Michael Roberts of Vernon. Danyluk has played the past four season’s in the WHL with the Prince Albert Raiders after being drafted by PA. He had 81 points in 262 games in Major Junior.

Brandon West reflects on his first 3 months as Head Coach and first major trade.
Brandon West speaking on the off-season transition from the Silverbacks Associate Coach to Head Coach, as well as trading 19-year-old F Michael Roberts of Vernon to the West Kelowna Warriors for the rights to Salmon Arm’s 20-year-old F Shane Danyluk of the Prince Albert Raiders in the WHL. Danyluk scored 81 points in 4 season’s with Prince Albert. Roberts had 8 goals and 14 assists in 54 games in the 13-14.

Backs new Assistant Coach Misko Antisin settling in.
The Silverbacks announced Antisin to the coaching staff at the end of June, replacing Kevin Kraus and Eric Godard who both recently signed with the Vernon Vipers. Antisin helped the BCMML’s Okanagan Rockets to a Bronze Medal at the 2014 Telus Cup, as well as Antisin was an Assistant Coach with the Westside Warriors in the BCHL. He has experience as an Associate and Professional Coach in Switzerland, after an 18-year pro playing career in Switzerland, which included three years with the National team. The 50-year-old from Vancouver, started in the BCHL at 15-years-old with Cowichan Valley before the Kelowna Buckaroos.

Backs President and G.M. Troy Mick explains the off-season changes within the organization.
The Silverbacks Hockey Club Board of Directors announced on June 3rd that Troy Mick would be stepping into the role of President, Governor and General Manager and stepping back as Head Coach. As well, the Board promoted Associate Head Coach Brandon West to Head Coach of the Silverbacks.

Logan Mick set for final Junior season with familiar faces.
The Backs have acquired 18-year-old forward Logan Mick from the Merritt Centennials for future considerations. Mick played the past two seasons with the Vernon Vipers, scoring 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 102 regular season games, as well as experiencing the 2013-14 RBC Cup with the Vipers. Mick has committed to Quinnipiac University for the 2015-16 season and he is also the son of Silverbacks President, Governor and General Manager Troy Mick.

Ryan Smyth plays in Scholarship game and speaks about his retirement.
The long-time Edmonton Oiler who summers at the Shuswap played in his 12th consecutive Salmon Arm Hockey School Pro-Am Hockey Scholarship game on Tuesday night, August 12th at the Shaw Centre. Team Blue defeated Smyth’s Team Red 14-6.

Lazar training in Salmon Arm and preparing for Senators Camp.
Salmon Arm’s Curtis Lazar suited up along with a handful of current NHL’ers at the annual Salmon Arm Hockey School Pro-Am Scholarship game Tuesday night, August 12th at the Shaw Centre. The Senators 17th overall pick in 2013 will attend Ottawa’s training camp this season after three seasons in the WHL in Edmonton.
